Awakening

Royal Jewellery Arts from Renaissance to the 20th Century

The exhibition Awakening: Royal Jewellery Arts from Renaissance to the 20th Century is a phenomenal exhibition entirely curated by the East Langkun team. It was prepared over five months and built in 40 days, and opened successfully at the Shenzhen Museum of Contemporary Art and Urban Planning on 22 December 2019. The exhibition was twice extended and closed on 19 July 2020. Held for 211 days, the exhibition attracted a total of more than 10,000 people, exceeded one billion online views, was covered by 400 media outlets worldwide, and generated more than 1,000 media reports.

More than 160 art treasures were selected for this exhibition, spanning four centuries and covering nearly 20 countries: from the Renaissance Christ Child pendant to the gold leaf from the crown of Napoleon; from the 17th century double dragon gold bracelet made by Chinese court craftsmen, to the royal treasure of the Bourbon Palma family. Every treasure is a clue to an ancient history and a key to open a mysterious world.

The Awakening exhibition condensed the team’s more than ten years of development—a highly detailed process, a firm and persistent attitude, extensive investigation, a growing team, and ever-expanding international cooperation and exchanges. Based on the exhibition, we created a direct dialogue between viewers and the art through lectures, publications, live broadcasts and series of videos, and shared imagery with the public. We will tell the world about the legends once again.
